Student Merit Award

What is the CAPA Student Merit Award?

The Canadian Association of Professional Apiculturists (CAPA) Student Merit Award was established to recognize outstanding achievement by students in the field of apiculture. There are two annual awards valued at $1,000.00 each; one at the Ph.D level and one for Masters or Undergraduate level. All Canadian students attending Canadian or foreign universities and all foreign students attending Canadian universities, graduate or undergraduate, are eligible to apply. Eligible students will have demonstrated excellence in research, extension, or any other area contributing to the development of apiculture.
An application should consist of a cover letter, curriculum vitae and two letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation should include commentary on the student’s achievements as a researcher and/or excellence in apicultural extension, citing specific examples and their contributions to the industry. A summary of theses completed or in progress should be included. Excellence in extension or other areas significant to apiculture development should be documented by reference to publications, audio visual presentations or other pertinent information. An explanation of purpose, exposure to the industry and impact should be included. Documentation for a nominee may include information in more than one category. As an example, a nominee may have conducted important research and have been outstanding in extension or teaching. Students may hold the award more than once, however, preference will be given to students who have not previously been awarded this scholarship. The application should be prepared solely by the applicant. Applicants may not use AI to generate content. AI may only be used for minor typographical or grammatical corrections and assisting with language translation.
Interested students should forward applications to CAPA Student Awards Committee Chair (CAPAAwards@gmail.com) by November 20th, 2026. The two winners will be invited to present their research results at the 2027 Canadian National Pollination Symposium and Tradeshow, which will be held at the Lévis Convention Center, in Lévis, Québec, January 29 and 30th, 2027. Travel costs and registration for the congress will be covered by CAPA.
